C.1900, Austrian, J. Salfer, 30-Day 1-wt, walnut timepiece. This is a great looking clock that apparently had the movement changed around 1950; there are 6 small veneer patches in the back, behind the movement, and done long ago and quite dirty, where another set of metal corbels and a pendulum hanger were mounted. This movement, seat board and corbels appear to have been together from the start. You have to make some allowances, as Joh. Salfer was a clockmaker of great repute, and the workmanship on the movement is exceptional. The porcelain dial center has been cleaned by someone who didn't realize that the second bit was painted on the porcelain, but not fired in, so half is missing (the chapter is fired in and xlnt). The bob is lead filled and no dents; stick never broken. A large and impressive clock. Height 74 inches
