If you didn't look on the back of the case you would assume this to be an Ansonia timepiece. This is a dead ringer for the "Novelty No. 18" made by Ansonia, but in a larger size. British United was copying designs made by Ansonia and producing their own. Without irony, Henry Davies' brother Edward had returned to the UK around 1885 to run the British United Clock Co; although there is no evidence of a financial bond between the 2 companies, there was for sure a Family Bond between the 2 and ideas were exchanged freely. The nickel-plated brass case is in very nice condition with some wear to the nickel plating. The porcelain dial is perfect and the hands are original. Height 6.25 inches
