Rare Hollow Column clock by, "Chauncey Jerome, Bristol, Conn", C. 1843.
The case is a miniature empire style case 28" high, with a cornice top, flat base, full columns, 3 glasses, just like the big triple deck clocks. Nice rosewood veneer case has beautiful figured grain all over. Very good condition considering its age, only a couple of nicks or small chips. The 2 upper glasses are original with old putty. The bottom mirror is more contemporary. There is a perfect full label, blue paper behind the middle glass on the backboard. The near perfect old zinc dial is signed, "Made by C. Jerome, Bristol, Ct. U. S. A.". It has a 30 hour brass movement signed the same as the dial. The round weights are correct for a hollow column clock, as are the pendulum, and hands. You won't find a better example of a miniature hollow column, and a bonus, it runs. Reference: "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. The same type movement is pictured on page 339.
