Polished ebony wood case, 72" tall, Vienna style with side glasses, finials top and bottom, slim design. Kroeber made a number of different Vienna style clocks, and many in ebony cases or ebony trim. Like most all Kroeber clocks the materials used, and attention to details, were first class. There are to be found the normal cracks from the wood drying or expanding, but nothing that would bother most collectors. The catalogs say this one weight model will run 8 days, but it has consistently ran 15 days for us, so evidently they used two different movements in this model. The movement is typical Vienna but signed, "F. Kroeber N.Y." and numbered, "23965", the same as the pendulum stick, movement bracket, and plate behind the porcelain dial and it is running very strong. Two piece porcelain dial is 10", minor hairlines, with seconds dial, and original hands. The brass bob is 8.5". The clock was featured in the F. Kroeber 1887-1888 trade catalog, page 119; and the F. Kroeber 1888-1889 catalog reprint, page 13. They touted the public that the clock would run within 5 seconds in a week.
