Unusual, large single train movement, 8 day, 1 weight that has maintaining power. Our research of the movement leads us to believe it is early Viennese, possibly 1850's. The pendulum hanger is shaped like a snake, and the hands are most unusual with the minute and second hand being a match. Porcelain dial is 2 piece, 7.5", with a brass pie crust bezel. Brass pendulum and single brass weight. The movement has been cleaned, restrung, and of course runs real well. The walnut veneered case is eye catching with the way they used the veneer. We have never seen inlaid veneer and satin banding around the front and side glasses. There is also satin inlay in the backboard. You can learn a great deal about the old Serpentine cases by reading and comparing pictured clocks in Rick Ortenburger's book, "Vienna Regulators and Factory Clocks".
