This is probably the nicest No. 3 1/2 Parlor I have seen and it has all the "Early Model" features. The movement is stamped on the front plate, "N Pomeroy Bristol CT Patented July 13 1869". The case is walnut with ebony trim and all the carvings are complete with no nicks, chips, or dings. There is a tiny crack on the front board just below the dial bezel, and maybe 25% of the gold trim on the side carvings base plaques has worn off. This case is about as close to mint as it gets. The movement is 8 day, time and bell strike. The paper dial is perfect, proper, and surely a replacement as I have never seen this model with an old worn dial. The originals were paper, so why not change when they get nasty. The glass calendar dial is perfect and definitely original. The nickel plated hands are correct; the calendar rolls could be replacements as they are nearly perfect. I would think if you install a new dial you would change the calendar rolls at the same time. After much deliberation and consternation my associates and I have decided to call the finish original. It may have been lightly cleaned, but I will stick with original. The first sentence told the whole story. You will have to look long and hard to find a better one. Ly-Calendar, pages132-133.
