Seth Thomas "Regulator No. 1", C. 1860-1863. This is probably one of the first regulator clocks made by Seth Thomas. He purchased the bankrupt stock of Silas B. Terry in 1859 and began construction of his own line of regulators, this being the first. The round movement could well have been one of Silas B. Terry's stock or made with the patterns and machinery purchased from him. It is very rare to find this movement in the Seth Thomas early regulators. Note how the weight is compounded in the top of the case using two pulleys, plus a third pulley holding the weight. Some restoration is needed to put the case back to original condition. The base will need to be made, order a seconds hand from Timesavers, and have the glass painted. There is no evidence that this case ever had a sliding partition separating the pendulum and weight and on which a label was placed. Instead there is a paper beat scale built into a small shelf on the door, and a label was put in the base. We believe the good zinc dial, bob, gold painted stick, and the flat weight, to be original to the clock. The case would be 34" if the base were in place.
