Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. "Regulator No. 10 Hanging", C. 1901.
I first bought this clock several years ago. It was missing the top which I proceeded to have made. I took a picture to our best antique restorer in this part of the country. Being half blind and not of sound mind I never noticed the top was made with only 6 little buttons instead of seven. One of my astute customers called it to my attention and because of the flaws was able to buy it below what I had invested in it. Recently I reacquired the clock and have enjoyed having it around for a few months because it is a beautiful walnut, burl used on the top, bottom, and inside on the backboard. It is a large case, 53", handsomely carved and has a fine cabinet finish. Glass sides, brass bob, wood rod, 10" dial (signed), seconds dial, and is running very well for 8 days. The 1 weight movement has dead beat escapement and retaining power. As usual with these fancy cases there are some slight variations in some etchings, applied wood pieces, and some of the cutouts, but the differences are factory and not changes someone made to the case later. Ly-Gilbert #352.
