Herschede Clock Co. Cincinnati, Ohio, small mantle clock with a lot of pizzaz.
It only stands 11.5" high and on first glance you think it is pretty plain but notice the two full columns, grooved north south, unusual carved capitals and bases, good looking trim around the top, 4 wood feet, the raised section below the dial. Then you have the silver dial with recessed numerals, signed by "Berry & Whitmore Co. Washington, D.C.", no doubt a jewelry store. It has a nice brass sash and a bowed beveled glass. Underneath it is signed by the company with their Crown trademark and the number 622, probably the model number. The movement is signed the same way, plus the number 1186. Round 8 day movement strikes a standing gong, has the correct pendulum, runs very well. Full back door with a knob latch. In case you are not familiar with Herschede clocks, their clocks are all well made of the finest materials, and highly desired by knowledgeable collectors.
