Transitional style cases of the 1860-1870's period were made with many curves and finials, and many like this one even have some Serpentine characteristics. This clock is generally in very good original condition. I did notice a few places where the black paint has been strengthened. The 49" high case has the original finish and an accumulation of old varnishes or sealers, and the burl walnut inside and outside is very good looking. The old finish should clean and rub out nicely unless you want the old crazed look. Movement is 8 day, unsigned, but has the number 81168 on the movement parts. The movement mounts to a heavy brass bracket with thumb screws to hold it in place. Excellent 2 piece porcelain dial, dial rings, pendulum bob, and other brass that has not been polished in a coon's age. The brass weight, pendulum bob, wood stick, and finials all appear to be original. The glasses are good, there is a key lock on the door as well as two hooks. Correct me if I am wrong but I just never see the Vienna regulators with the outside escapement. This may be my second one in 20 plus years selling clocks.
