These plain Biedermeier wood cases were made with native woods, generally had a smooth appearance and very little gingerbread. This case may have originally had some fretwork on top but I can find no evidence of that, and it could have had a carved finial instead of the turned finial we now see. I repeat, could have, or it could have always looked the way it does now. This case is 40" high. There are no latches to hold the door. I looked closely and see no evidence it ever had a latch of any kind. The 8 day movement has no signature or serial number, and is running fine. The ebony case has a small piece of brass tacked on the door hinge side of the case for added support. These thin walled Biedermeier cases have a tendency to give or bend a little over time. There are three good glasses, brass pendulum ball, wood stick, all are fine.
