During this time Edward Howard was away from the clock factory setting up a watch factory (which collapsed in 1857) and left his nephew Albert Howard to run the clock business. During this period A. Howard marked some of the clocks with his name. The original dial pan is properly signed, "E. Howard, Boston", is showing slight fading but still very satisfactory. The weight is correct and has the "4" cast in the iron. Hands and the lower glass are original, (a little flaking of the red paint) throat glass is a repaint, well done, and excellent match with the door glass. The case parts are marked, "40". Brass bob, stick, pendulum tie down, door latches, all original and correct. Generally this clock is in good original condition with deficiencies noted. The finish and graining are intact. The clock has not hung in one place for 150 years, it shows use, but not abuse. Some minor tuning and cleaning may be in order, but this old clock should last someone many more years.
