E. Howard, Boston, "Banjo No. 3", C. 1857, give or take. The movement is signed "Howard & Davis, Boston", and the dial is signed, "E. Howard & Co., Boston".
Davis left the firm in 1857 so this was probably a left over movement used in 1858 or thereabout. It was very likely made about the same time as 200G. The clock is complete and all original with the exception of the repainted glasses, and the pendulum tie down is absent. The case is a little dark but retains the graining. A small joint separation at the top. Pendulum and stick are excellent, weight is correct with the "4" cast in the iron, the dial is original with a good signature, but has a couple of "gosh durn it", screwdriver or winding key scratches. The dial screws are original and the holes not enlarged. The movement is even held with the one large screw from the back. This large case is 38" high, has not led a sheltered life, but has been used on an everday basis and taken its share of knocks. A little cleaning, fill some enlarged screw holes, order a pendulum tie down, and you will have it back in shape. We notice that this model brings big prices at east coast auctions and on ebay. By big we mean $5000 to $6000. Ly-American, page 117. Our estimate
