Elisha Manross, Bristol, Conn. triple decker clock, C. 1845.

This old clock has a lot of potential for a cabinetmaker. The mahogany veneered case stands 37" high, veneer has stuck tight for the most part, and there will be some flat surfaces to take care of. I believe the bottom door to be new to this case; however, it matches the top door and the pictures of identical clocks in the research articles. The door will have to be refinished, lock is missing. Both bottom glasses are gone. The eagle splat is very nice, columns are also good. Capitals and returns are in good condition. The backboard label is 95% or better, large metal dial is dirty but paint is good. The 8 day weight movement is very unusual, in that the brass cutouts are used for legs at the bottom to convert the movement from 30 hour to 8 day. The clock comes with an old pendulum and key. Upper door has a lock. Could be a very nice clock with little time spent. Several references but the October 93 Bulletin article by A. Lee Smith, pages 541-556, pictures and discusses this identical case and movement; Snowden Taylor's article in the February 1991 Bulletin, pictures this same movement.
