Sought by collectors because of the simple yet dignified style, which includes the balcony around the top, gold striping on the case front, unusual glasses and the nice sounding Cathedral gongs that Seth Thomas was noted for. Some remnants of a black label remain on the base; glass is original, albeit slightly faded. The biggest knocks on this clock can be easily corrected. The dial is entitled to a nice paint job; the case needs some Nu-Life or other wood enricher. It looks a little dry. The pendulum is Seth Thomas, but the clock deserves a nickel bob that would go with the glass and dial rings. The movement is 8 day, strikes on the hours. On the back of the case is a factory stamp, "B5881", which indicates the clock was made February 1885. Ly-Seth Thomas #216.
