Birge, Mallory & Co. Bristol, Conn., C. 1837.
This company continued to offer the same products offered by its predecessor Birge, Gilbert & Co. 8 day, signed strap brass movement, 2 large period iron weights, pendulum and key, and striking a coil gong. This clock has an excellent full paper label, replaced black and gold tablets, carved pediment and full turned columns. A couple of leaf tips on pediment are chipped, noticeable on close inspection. Mahogany veneer case stands 36" high, and like the preceeding clocks is in very good condition with the normal bumps on the edges. The front is almost perfect. One door lock intact, the other inside the case, will need to reinstall. The large wood dial has some stretch marks, not unsightly, but has retained the gold paint very well. It is slightly soiled and would probably clean up if you are careful. This maker, the movement and the case, can be seen in the same books mentioned above.
