Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Winsted, Conn.
8 day brass movement, two weight shelf clock which strikes hours on the typical early wire gong. This model isn't pictured in Ly-Gilbert, however we have had a fair number of them so we know they are legitimate. We call it a flat OG with a cornice type top with chimneys and caps. It uses two large iron weights the same size as the previous 6 clocks. The label is beginning to deteriorate and should be protected very soon with plastic. The large painted metal dial is slightly soiled but very good paint wise, correct hands, and we feel two good original glasses, the bottom covered with a flocked substance. The rosewood case is 31.5" high and like the previous clocks, is very very nice, except we have lost a piece of molding on the left side of the base. Easy for any wood man. There is a paper strip on the door that states, "Patented April 14, 1857 by Chauncey Jerome". I will leave it to you historians to figure out why the paper is there. Jerome and Gilbert, once partners, parted company in 1839 and Gilbert moved to Winsted. To my knowledge Jerome and Gilbert were never involved together in another business.
