Chauncey Ives, Bristol, Connecticut, C. 1825 pillar and scroll shelf clock.
30 hour wood movement is in very good condition and running with the two old period weights. The wood dial is not bad. Some stretch marks in the lower section as well as wear in the lower part where the hands have rubbed lo these many 175 years. Probably the best feature is the nice full label. The ship scene, although very nice, is a good replacement, and the upper glass is original. The base and top are original. One ear has been repaired, and no doubt other repairs have been made but are so well done they are eluding me. The back was wall papered eons ago, but a thrifty collector removed the paper looking for old money. Three new brass finials, period hands, weights, pendulum. Wood escutscheon, working door lock. The clock has been restrung, movement checked, and it is running. If it had the original glass and finials I could expect it to bring $2500 plus. It is still a most desired early maker.
