E.C. Brewster & Co. Bristol, Ct., C. 1843 or earlier.
Steeple clock of mahogany is 20" high, and like all of this collection, very nice, including the sharp pointed finials. Top glass original, bottom probably a replacement. Full green label inside but with my vision and a magnifiying glass I can't make it out. The 8 day movement is signed as above. It is mounted on an iron backplate and has a lyre shaped gong stand, which was only used with this movement. Old original zinc dial has been repainted. There are tons of references on this maker and this movement. The book referenced in #518 give some pictures and descriptions, and Kenneth D. Roberts book, "The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862", has significant information. There are also numerous Bulletin articles regarding this rare movement.
