C.1867, Hubbell and Boardman Patent Improved Calendar, in a walnut G.B. Owen case, with restorations.
Condition: The walnut case is missing its top trim. There are 4 labels on the rear, instructions at top, notice in center; fragments of brand label bottom, and the retail label of a San Francisco merchant, Charles Muller. This is one of the rarer calendar clocks, as they were expensive and unreliable. This is the second one we have offered in 24 years of auctions, the first in May of 2004, selling for 6300 dollars+premium. The double spring time only movement, is a typical Laporte Hubble model, and we are unable to tell if it is 8 or 30 day, but movement is sound and proper. The calendar movement has 3 drums, one with the day of the week, and another 2 with one years worth of dates that change each day as the linen strip advances from the supply roller to the Òtake upÓ roller. The calendar mechanism is spring driven and wound ONCE PER YEAR. ,through the right side of the case. See details in LyÕs calendar book, pages 36-37. Dial, hands and rollers original. New screws in rear need replacing. Height 17.5 inches
