Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator, "Regal", ca 1905.
Mr. Ly featured this clock on the front of his "Ansonia Clocks & Watches" book in 1998. At that time many of the country's best known collectors valued the clock at 4000 dollars. Since then we have seen them sell at auctions and on Ebay for many hundreds more as Ansonia prices have been on the rise. The large gold gilt and brass case is 18.5 inches high and 10.5 inches wide. The case was professionally refinished with new gold gilt, brass polished, and like the preceding clocks, it is clean and shining. The rare and impossible to replace pendulum, is like everything else on this clock, perfect. The movement, 2 piece porcelain dial with open escapement, is like the other crystal regulators. Some say this is Ansonia's finest. Bob Schmitt's October 2003 auction sold a Regal for 6000 dollars plus 12% premium. Ly-Ansonia, pages 109-110.
