Muller and Kroeber, ca.1868, heavily carved shelf clock.
18 inches tall and 16 inches wide. Original dark walnut finish, probably walnut and ash. Twisted rope carvings are across top and front. Fancy carved shield on top; carved finials and heavy scrolled leaves on side corners. The lower front door deeply carved. 8 day pinned movement strikes the hour on wire gong. Old hand and pendulum, old nickel plated dial pan stamped 1859, replaced paper dial. Strong paper label inside reads "Fuller & Kroeber, Manufacturer of American Clocks No.2 5 John St, New York". This is a label error. Florence Kroeber and his father-in-law, Nicholas Muller, opened a clock store at 25 John St, NY about 1865. In1868 Muller & Kroeber opened a store at 68 Beekman St. Their clocks sold with "Fuller & Koeber" labels. This is a very desirable Kroeber collector clock. Runs and strikes but could use a servicing..
