English 8 bell, triple chain fusee bracket clock. We get several nice English Bracket clocks, some 8 bells, some triple fusees, but never with both in an elaborate carved oak case like this one. First the case; it is 22 inches high, 13.5 inches wide, lions heads carved on both sides of the front above the door. To the left is a carved woman's bust, and to the right is a man's bust. Below them is a shock of leaves with two pears hanging from them. Below the pears is another shock of leaves with two pine cones and below that, a bunch of grapes. That is all carved over a background of leaves. The case is completely carved on three sides and the top all around. Both doors have working locks, with keys. The front door has the original beveled glass; the rear door has metal grillwork covered with fabric. The sides have church window openings with wood fretwork grills and covered with fabric. The finish is excellent; it has been well protected and maintained. It is 8 day, of course, very large, weighs 23 pounds by itself. It strikes on a very large standing gong and chimes on either four coil gongs or eight bells. This movement, a cut above the norm, has an original machined brass knob to lock the pendulum in place. The very nice brass dial has a silver chapter ring with heavy carvings, the center with filigree. There are 3 small chapter rings for, "Chime-Silent", "Slow-Fast", and "Westminster Chimes-8 Bells". The clock is running, striking properly, is not fussy, and the bells all sound great. Inside and outside, this bracket clock is as near to perfect as you will find.
