Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. calendar clock, marketed by the Davis Clock Co. of Columbus, Mississippi and Texar
The Davis Clock Co. of Columbus, Mississippi and Texarkana, Arkansas, marketed clocks made by the Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Using their own labels, sometimes Mississippi, sometimes Arkansas, they sold clocks throughout the south. If you will compare this case with Gilbert's Elberton, you will see only a slight difference. The movement is 8 day, I suppose, however it ran over 13 days here on a winding. It is spring driven and strikes a cathedral gong. The calendar is "simple", meaning it doesn't adjust itself for 31 days in a month. A wheel is tripped once each 24 hours to advance the calendar hand. This is an excellent oak case, 27.5 inches high, cleaned-refinished, full label inside. Some may question a couple of the finials or the fact there is no painting in the glass. We have seen several of these clocks, and frankly no two have been alike. What we do see on the clock, is all original. What may be missing we can't be sure. See Millers, "Calendar Clocks", page 139. 650 dollars -750 dollars. movement is 8 day, strikes on a nickel bell, which is signed as stated above. This clock is not a cream puff, but it has some oddities I can't explain.
