Boston Clock Company, Chelsea, Mass. 1884-1894.
Was a producer of good grade, imitation French clocks. The styles of the onyx cases, the porcelain dials, indicataed the cases were probably imported. The 8 day movements used were of good quality, using a platform or watch like balance escapement and had tandem winding whereby the time and strike were wound by turning the key in opposite directions in a single keyhole. A serial number on the movement may date the clock exactly. Read "Bulletin" articles about the company. This beautiful marble clock is typical of their better clocks. Excellent gold remains in the etched designs, outstanding grey, white, and black marble used as accent trim on the front, heavy beveled glass, excellent porcelain dial, original hands, and back cover. The clock is running, strikes a cathedral gong, and like others in this late arriving collection, is near perfect. Ly-American, Volume 2.
