Condition: This is a modern version of a mystery timepiece that was first described in the 17th Century and reproduced many times since then. The turtle floats in bowl when filled with water and tells time by a flat bar with a magnetic at each end driven by a clock mechanism under the bowl that moves the turtle to tell time by attraction to a metal bar attached to the turtle, you put a half cup of water in the time "bowl". Case is in pretty nice condition with minor wear to the gilding. Well made lever movement in base. Always popular. Diameter 7 inches
