Mixed Lot: C.1870, E. Charon, French, sweep second pinwheel escapement, 8-day time/strike, now in a 4-pillar empire mantel clock.
Condition: Mahogany veneered case is in very nice condition with a little veneer loss on the base and a chip just above the left pillar. Movement is a pinwheel escapement with a quality vernier beat setter, but has an outer bezel and crystal, and is from an enclosed mantel clock and has cut outs in the rear of the bezel where straps used to me. Mov't now mounted from the "ceiling" of the case with an "L" bracket, and you have to hold the movement with your hand when winding; a handy workman could make 2 little side brackets to fit in the cut outs, and screw to the pillars and it would all be stable. Finish on case is original but sun damaged in places. Porcelain dial has hairline cracks. Hands are original. Steel work on the gilt pendulum has some surface rust. A fine movement with 60 pin 'scape wheel indicating half seconds and going round once per minute. Height 20 inches
