Shelf Portico

French Portico Clock, 8 day time/strike, typical French movement, round, bell strike, outside count.

Gridiron compensating pendulum. Movement is signed "Valery Paris", and "C.T" inside a circle. It is operating properly. Elaborate, sculpted clock with four legs, which are integral with case part that contains the movement; and a fancy sculpted base. Ebonized wood with extensive brass, MOP and blue and red enamel inlays. Very complicated inlay pattern on facing of all four legs, the movement portion, as well as the top and front surface of the base.

French 4 column Empire mantle clock.

21 inches high wood case, painted ebony all over. You forget the case is black when you see all the repousse brass trim. Fine pressed vine trim on all four barley twist columns and around all the case edges. All the brass trim is very fancy, nothing simple anywhere. Very attractive brass capitals and bases, also the four feet, the four large applied brass ornaments, and a very nice brass dial surround. It has one of the most unusual pendulums I have seen on an Empire clock. There is a cherub and dog in the center, two cherubs standing on each side of the grid.

Gilbert Clock Co. metal cased mantle clock, "Tuscan", ca 1901.

Considered by many to be Gilbert's most attractive metal clock. 8 day round movement, strikes half hours on a nickel bell. Handsomely styled with 4 Brazilian green onyx columns, onyx cap and base. A touch of brown in the onyx adds a little flavor. The rich ormolu gold finish has some wear yet some original gold still shining. The case is 19 inches high, and overall in good original condition. 2 piece porcelain dial with open escapement mechanism, original hands, all very nice. Probably a couple of things keep the clock from being almost perfect.

C.1850, French, 4-Column Empire style clock in a white alabaster portico case.

Condition: this clock sat on a porch for some time and the movement is dirty and discolored, and there is some surface rust on the hands and arbors. The steel parts of the compensating grid pendulum have some rust also. The movement is missing the bell stand and bell. In spite of the needed restoration, it is generally in fair original condition. Height 20 inches (51cm)

C.1825, Austrian, 4-pillar Empire style alabaster and wood mantel clock, 30-hour time/strike, as-is.

Condition: Ebonized wood case with brass, copper and silver inlay is in generally good condition with some veneer loss and lifting on the base. Alabaster columns have a couple of small repairs. Original porcelain dial is damaged in the center and repaired at winding holes. Hands are original. Bezel present; glass absent. The silk thread suspension movement lacks a pendulum and gong. The rear wooden door is missing and there is some damage to the round wooden case that houses the movement, case loose and needs gluing. Height 18.25 inches

C.1875, French, 4-Column Empire, 8-day time/strike mantel clock.

Condition: Ebonized wood and tortoise shell case in very fine restored condition. All the brass and gilt mountings have been cleaned and polished. Porcelain dial has a very small hairline crack below 6 o'clock. Hands are original. The movement has been cleaned recently and is in running condition. Height 20.25 inches

C.1860, French, Gre. Pinet, Paris, Empire 4-column mantel clock, with calendar and open escapement on the porcelain dial.

Condition: the crown molding has a glue repair top left and needs a little attention. The brass inlay on the case is still excellent, and the dial is perfect, with strong fired in signature of the maker, and with a 2-hand concentric calendar, similar to the BB Lewis concept, the long hand the date and the short hand the month. Height 20.5 inches
