C.1880, Raingo Freres, Paris, ormolu and marble crystal regulator clock, 8-day bell strike.
Condition: Case is in very fine condition with virtually all of the original gilding intact; each of 4 corners with a standing quiver full of arrows, the central tower surmounted by a large red marble urn with ormolu handles and a floral spray. On the marble base, the left front gilt corner ornament is missing, and the right one is taped on (this can be copied). Porcelain dial is perfect, with cobalt blue Roman numerals and gold fleur-de-lis between each numeral. Hands are original. The Sun god pendulum is proper and old, but the bottom 3 "rays" have been cut for regulation, so we imagine it is from another clock (looks OK). Quality Japy movement with brocot escapement, serial No. 1053. For comparison, see the cousin to this clock, May '04, lot 350 which brought $3,700+. Height 20.5 inches
