C.1880, English, J. O. Simpson, Lichfield, Gothic style mantel clock, 8-day time/strike fusee movement with detached lever OPEN escapement.
Condition: Mahogany veneered case in nice condition with original finish in need of restoration. The case has some veneer pieces missing on flat areas along the base, a small piece on the back and small piece on the top eave. One of the triangular blocks is missing from one of the spires. The very top of the carved crest and one tip on the right side is broken off. The top of the case has some stress cracks and lifting. Case contains a heavy plate chain-drive fusee movement striking on a gong. The engraved brass dial is clean and was originally silvered. The hands appear to be original. The case contains a heavy plate chain drive fusee movement striking on a replaced gong, the balance support gilded and engraved with the words "Detach Lever". Lots of potential. Height 23 inches
