C.1870, French, Large Morbier time and strike pinwheel escapement tower or public clock, less weights and pendulum. Condition: Large iron and brass-framed movement is in sound condition with some surface rust to the steelwork. Movement has a dial on one side made up of an iron plate with an engraved silvered chapter ring with original hands; there is minute drive and universal out the rear to allow hookup to an external dial and a lifting lever on the strike side for an external bell. Dust covers are missing, but are easily fabricated from sheet steel. There are access slots in the top and bottom plate to allow the weights to be hung straight down or through the top to hang the weights above the movement. The largest Morbier movement we have ever seen. Height 25 inches
