A Regency clock with a rosewood case made by one of the best makers of the time, Ellicott, who were clock and watchmakers to George III.
This particular clock was made during the time of Edward Ellicott, grandson of the eminent founder, John, who died in 1772. He, Edward, became Master of the Clockmakers' Company of London in 1834. The signature on the dial dates the clock to before 1811 and probably it was made circa 1795-1800. The clock is in good original condition. The case was lightly re-polished by us several years ago and new glass fitted to one of the doors. The dial was re-silvered at the same time. The movement has been serviced and will run for a few more years but is approaching the time when it needs an overhaul. The ticket price of #7,900 allows for this, should the purchaser wish it to be done now. The five-pillar movement is of first class quality with thick plates and pillars. It has engraved edges to the back plate.
