Lewis, Bristol Connecticut CONDITION: 100% original, no alterations from its original state. The day hand on the time dial was broken and repaired. Pristine original finish, the grain painted bezels are excellent, minor paint loss to the time dial, it has been sealed to prevent any further flaking. No damage to the rosewood veneered case, perfect B. B. Lewis calendar and interior labels. DESCRIPTION: A "Variant" is a clock that has significant differences over that which was normally produced. It would be like a rare three legged buffalo nickel. This Lewis No. 2 is 1" shorter, calendar dial is 1/4" larger, the original square weights are shorter as compared to a standard No. 2 B. B. Lewis which we have listed as item No. 1802. Notice how close together the bezels are on the Variant and how close the calendar bezel is to the base. Compare this to my item No. 1802. This clock has not been altered in any way. There are no extra screw holes anywhere. The two weight, 8 day, weight driven and the Y calendar movement is identical to the standard No. 2. Both movements have been professionally restored, and are original to the case, both time and calendar dials are original with original paint. All the crud has been cleaned off of the case and three coats of cabinet wax have been applied. The color of the rosewood and grain is beautiful on both clocks. The near mint interior label states "B. B. Lewis Patented Perpetual Calendar 8 and 30 day Office and Mantle Clocks Made Expressly for LF and WW Carter Bristol Connecticut". See photos. The clock was made by Lewis and retailed by Carter. The key locking calendar bezel is functional with the old key. There are no negatives with this rare clock. Bear in mind this is an 8 day weight driven perpetual calendar clock not the spring wound LF and WW Carter version.
