E. N. Welch Miniature Rosewood OOG with Club-Foot Escape wheel
Miniature double O.G. or OOG clock by Elisha Niles Welch Manufacturing Company, Forestville, Conn. Mint rosewood case, time, hour strike with alarm. Circa Aug. 30, 1870 (date on the movement). Size: 18 1/2" tall, 11 1/2" wide, 4" deep, 6 1/4" original zinc dial. Condition is mint restored. The 30-hour with hour chime runs for 2 1/2 days. The movement has been completely rebuilt. All pivots have been resurfaced and polished, all new bronze bushings, 2 new main springs and the original club-foot escapewheel and verge are perfect. The alarm mechanism and all of its components are original and function perfectly. The movement is original to the case. The four feet were repositioned. The original four holes line up perfectly when the movement feet are moved back to their original position. This was a common practice years ago when the screws would no longer hold the movement to the case. Now we prefer to plug the old holes as opposed to adding any additional screw holes in the back of the case. The original dial has not been repainted. Some minor touch-up on the paint in flaked areas. The entire dial has been sealed to prevent any further flaking. Both of the glasses are original. The floral transfer was rebacked due to extensive flaking. The rosewood case is the best I have ever seen. The case has the typical OG style molding and the door also has the OG molding design, therefore called a "OOG" or Conn. shelf clock. The clock was fitted with a wall a bracket so it could be hung on the wall. A wonderful original label. This is a rare little Welch Double OG. The color and grain of the rosewood is exceptional.
