French antique champleve carriage clock. This little gem has a 1 3/4" porcelain dial with a 3 1/4" by 2 1/4" champleve dial mask. The colors are light and dark blues, off-white, and mauve. Very intricate design with flower and vine decoration. The big difference between cloisonne and champleve is that champleve is the more desirable due to the process of creating the design. This entails engraving the surface and inlaying the areas with the different colors of enamel. In cloisonne channels are created utilizing brass wire and the enamel is then inlaid. Traditionally, a champleve item consistently bring 25% more than a cloisonne item. The dimensions are 4 1/2" by 3 1/8" by 2 1/2". With the handle extended 5 3/4". The case has been completely disassembled, polished and lacquered. We will include to the buyer two polaroids of the restoration work in process of this fully disassembled clock and case. You may find it difficult to believe that there are so many little bits that comprise this wonderful clock. The carriage clock is a week duration timepiece with original jeweled platform escapement. Made in France, between 1890 - 1900. The trademark of the lion is for the maker Duverdury and Bloquel, Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont. The simple design of the clock case is called corniche. All five beveled glass pieces are original. There is a 1/16" corner chip to the right panel top back corner. Other than that it is perfect.
