James McCabe Twin Fusee Georgian Bracket Clock, circa 1805,
Antique Clock, Georgian bracket clock, twin fusee made by James McCabe, Sr. circa 1805, twin fusee bracket clock is 14 1/2" high, 11" wide, 6 1/2" deep. The clock is pristine and 100% original including the winding crank and front and rear door locking keys. The original ebony finish sparkles with only a few wear spots on the edges. All brasses are original and were polished and sealed over 25 years ago. The very good original enameled convex iron round dial, has a bit of crazing and a tiny bit of paint loss. Note the wonderful original brass hands. REFER TO THE BOOK "Complete British Clocks by Brian Loomes" page 56. The dial and movement are both signed James McCabe Royal Exchange London. The word London is mostly worn off of the dial. The No. 87 also appears on the dial. Considering the early date of the clock I feel certain that this is No. 87 of 7000 clocks that the firm made. They were locate at 97 Cornhill, Royal Exchange, London from 1802-1826. James, Sr. died in 1811. For the complete history of James McCabe refer to NAWCC Bulletin Dec. 1978. The clockworks is week duration with hour strike on original bell. It is a twin chain fusee with the original hand-made chain. The backplate, pendulum, and two mounting brackets are all hand engraved. The pendulum securing screw is still intact. The pull strike repeat is located on the right side. The front crystal and rear display glass are both original. Most books you pick up on English clocks will discuss James McCabe. This is an important clock and he was an important maker. The clock has been professionally restored and is 100% original.
