Miniature French Inlaid Balloon Clock

Antique clock, French desk or mantel, balloon style with inlay design. CIRCA: 1890 SIZE: 9" x 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" with a 3 1/4" dial MAKER: Cauaillet, Saint-Nicolas-d Aliermont France DESCRIPTION: 100% original, wood case is solid mahogany with string banding inlay and an oval fan inlay. The French movement is a week duration with a horizontal jewelled platform escapement. The escapement is original to the movement. The face and movement are marked "Made in France". The arrow which appears on the backplate of the movement corresponds to the Cauaillet mark in the carriage clock book. The dial is gold gilt brass with damascene center covered by a convex crystal. This is a very high quality French movement and dial. The clock sits on four brass bun feet. The brass dust cover is original. The clock has been professionally rebuilt and keeps accurate time. There is a tight shrinkage crack on the top of the case. It will not open up even with force. That is the only negative of this clock.
