Originally this clock had a wax finish. The clock has not been refinished. The hand carved wood crest is original to the case and held in place with the original screws. The oval glass is surrounded and enhanced by some beautiful hand carving DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful French Louis Phillipe wall clock. The honey colored walnut case is rich with a warm satin luster. This chiming clock movement ranks No. 2 next to Lenzkirch by the clock collecting community. The movement is marked "LFS", SR No. 115148. This is a precision made clock with small delicate wheels and hardened steel pivots. The clock is a week duration with quarter hour Westminster chimes. On the first quarter it plays 4 notes, on the second quarter it plays 8 notes, on the third quarter it plays 12 notes, and on the hour it plays the full 16 notes of the Westminster chime and then announces the hour. The chimes are very deep and resonate and sounds as good as any large grandfather clock. The back of the case is also stamped in red with the LFS mark and the number "818". The two wall stabilizers are marked "LFS". The chime resonates out of the two removable side vents. The over-sized 8" brass dial, with engraved numerals has been polished and sealed. There are no negatives with this rare clock.
