Here's an early cuckoo with a very clean 30-hour movement and original hands and mechanical bird. On the hours, the cuckoo appears and sings his song (a 'cuckoo' for each hour) and on the half-hour, he emerges again for just one cuckoo. The numerals are nailed-on, which dates this as an earlier cuckoo (the later ones had plastic numerals that were glued to the dial). Also, the McKinley Tarrif Act of 1891 required all imported goods to bear the name of the country of origin. This clock does not have the name Germany stamped on the dial...indicating that it can be estimated to have been made around 1890. The hands are also original to the clock and the bellows have been recently recovered to provide many years of cuckoo-ing for the next owner. The pine cone weights are also of the older type with wire loops. This clock has been consigned to us by a friend so we are able to offer it for only $650 compared to others of the same age on the internet at higher amounts.Height: 17 in. (43.18 cm) Depth: 7 in.
