Triple decker mantle clock with reverse-painted tablets and eight-day strap movement.
Chauncey and Noble Jerome manufactured clocks in Bristol, Connecticut between 1834 and 1839. The brother's company was the successor to the older JEROMES AND DARROW clock manufacturing company. They produced exceptionally fine clocks and this one is even better than most. The original painted wood dial with its black chapter ring and gold numerals marks it as a special design rarely found on this type clock. A carved pineapple fruit basket splat (top ornament) has been nicely preserved and will surely present this clock well wherever it will be displayed. The upper door glass is original to the case and has the expected wavy old glass that marks it as an early piece. The middle and lower glasses were professionally repainted recently to conform to the correct and original design of that day. The lower glass is also original to the case with wavy surface. The 8-day strap brass movement (see photographs) has been professionally cleaned and runs and strikes the hours properly. A good label inside the case (see photo) retains the C and N Jerome, Bristol, Connecticut identification with good retention of these and other important components. The case finish is excellent. An original set of hands, pendulum 'bob' and even the winding crank demonstrate that this fine clock has had an 'easy' life and probably remained in one owner's home until it came to us.
