Daniel Pratt, Jr. was born in in Reading, Massachusetts 1797. He died in 1871 after producing some of the better quality clocks of the era. Many of his clocks incorporated movements manufactured by other clockmakers. This lovely steeple clock includes a 30-hour brass movement made by the firm of Brewster and Ingrahams, of Bristol, Connecticut. The door glasses are old originals and the reverse painting in the lower portion of the door is by the artist named FENN....whose distinctive patterns are highly sought-after by knowlegeable clock collectors today. The upper door glass is also an old original with wavy surface and the "seeds" that mark it as belonging to the clock from its beginning. The zinc dial retains its original paint with some flakes missing but attractive nonetheless. The old brass springs are also still present in the movement and along with a really nice paper label inside the case, complete the originality of this exceptional clock. This is the 3/4 size steeple marketed by Pratt whose address on the printed label inside the case reads: DANIEL PRATT, JR. No. 2 UNION BLOCK CORNER OF UNION AND MARSHALL STREETS BOSTON.
