18th Century Massachusetts tall case clock.

During the entire 18th Century, in and around Essex County, Massachusetts there were about a dozen Mulliken (also sometimes spelled Mullikan) clockmakers who were descendants of a 17th Century immigrant named Jonathan Mulliken. Jonathan was born in 1701 and settled in Bradford, Mass. where he trained several of his cousins in the clockmaking trade. This lovely Cherry cased clock was made by Joseph Mulliken, grandson of Jonathan. Joseph was the son of Nathaniel Mulliken and Lydia Stone. He was born in 1765 at Lexington, Mass. and worked in Lexington and later at Concord, Mass. from 1787 until his death in 1802. Joseph Mulliken married the former Hepzibah Flint. This clock is one of the very well-made tall case clocks that were typical of Mulliken's superior skill. The dial was made by James Wilson in Birminghan, England (as were many of the early New England tall case clock dials) and installed on Mulliken's 8-day movement and case. This beautiful and stately clock was produced toward the end of Mulliken's brief career-around 1795 to 1800. Notice the attractive fan inlay on the base (see our close-up photograph) and the colorful dial features. Unfortunately our lighting caused a reflection on the clock case. We are professional clock dealers, but somewhat amateur photographers! We are proud to be able to feature this particular clock and offer it for a very modest price. Professional shipping can be arranged throughout the Continental United States.Height: 92 in. (233.68 cm) Depth: 11 in. (27.94 cm) Width: 20 in. (50.80 cm) Weight: 50
