Automated Dutch tall case clock.
Anonymous (not verified)
23 October 2024
This Dutch tall case clock was made in Rotterdam by Samuel de Ruel a clockmaker of some importance...judging from the quality and elaboration of his workmanship on this piece. The clock stands about 114" with the statues in place or 96" without the statues (some persons choose to leave them off of the hood due to room ceiling height limitations). The clock features the full Dutch striking sequence...that is, it strikes every 15 minutes with the full strike on the hour and the half-hour and once on the quarter hours on differing bells. The animation in the arch of the dial includes rocking ships (see close-up photograph) and a "Herald Angel" which floats back and forth through the sky over the ships. A moon phase dial over the numeral six indicates the relative moon phases through the month. This clock is being offered on consignment to OLD TIMERS LLC. and is located in New England, from which place it can be shipped using a custom shipper or is available for the buyer's personal pick-up. The photographs supplied to us by the clock's owner don't really do justice to this exceptionally lovely clock. The clock is far more attractive when seen in person. The owner will mail clear, close-up camera prints to any definately interested buyer. Prices for Dutch clocks of this magnitude and especially those with animation are usually substantially higher...making this an excellent 'buy' for those with a high-ceiling room in which to display it. Height: 114 in. (289.56 cm) Depth: 15 in. (38.10 cm) Width: 28 in. (71.12 cm) Weight: 110
