Frisian Staartkloks were produced in large numbers during the entire 19th Century in Holland. They are the best known antique clocks of national origin in both the Netherlands, throughout Europe and now here in America. The Oak case consists of a hood containing a stout brass movement and a hand-painted iron dial with a quaint Dutch village scene in the crest (as on this particular clock),see photograph. The "tail" or trunk of the clock houses the long pendulum rod with its brass 'bob' that shows through the opening at the bottom of the tail. The front of the tail slides down to allow for adjustment of the pendulum 'bob' to slow down or speed up the clock's timekeeping. On the top of the clock are three wooden turrets with figures of two Herald Angels and Atlas bearing the weight of the Heavens on his shoulders. The clock is operated by a large weight that is re-wound each day--or better still in the morning and again before going to bed, by simply pulling the brass chain to raise the weight. The large weight on this clock is an old original and the two smaller weights--that are for the operation of the alarm mechanism, are later replacements. The colorful metal dial is as pretty and bright as they come. The numerals and inner (chapter) ring have been restored and the rest of the dial is original including the charming Dutch village scene in the crest (or arch)of the dial (see photograph). This clock runs very well and strikes the full hours on a clear bell. It also strikes one time on the half-hour. We are one of the leading sellers of Dutch clocks in America and this one is as nice as any we've offered for sale. Height: 52 in. (132.08 cm) Depth: 8 in. (20.32 cm) Width: 14 in.
