EIGHT-DAY WOOD WORKS MOVEMENT WITH 'MIRROR-IMAGE' DESIGN.

This is definitely a "Collector's Clock". It features an eight-day wood works by Samuel Terry. And, the unique aspect of this movement is that it has a "mirror image" design...meaning that the strike gearing is on the right side of the works and the motion gearing is on the left. This was undoubtedly done by Samuel Terry to do an 'end run' around the original Eli Terry Patent. The painted dial is colorful and has had two later-addition winding holes plugged-almost imperceptably (see dial photograph). The reason for the plugs is that someone over the years, removed the original 8-day Terry wood movement...replacing it with a brass movement.This made it necessary for them to reposition the winding holes on the dial. When we got the clock, an original Samuel Terry eight-day wooden works accompanied it. We promptly put it back into the case. That required us to re-open the original winding holes and plug the later additions. The stenciling on the top splat and side columns is original and in good condition (see photograph). The clock runs well and strikes properly. The finish on the case is original and shows the expected aging. There is some veneer loss along the upper edge of the top molding and one or two other tiny chips. If you are a collector who appreciates and seeks very scarce American wood works clocks, this is the ticket for you. Priced quite low because of the replaced (although an original) movement and dial work, this fine old clock by SAMUEL TERRY will appeal to those who know clocks and appreciate uniqueness.Height: 34 in.
