Eight-day mantle clock with strike on the hours and alarm mechanism.
The Ansonia Brass and Copper Company in Connecticut produced this nice eight-day mantle clock with strike on the hours and a working alarm mechanism (few owners actually wind and use the alarms on these clocks...because they continue ringing until fully wound down...but it is nice to have it anyway as an original component of the clock). The case retains its original lower door glass with the impressive American Eagle symbol (see photograph). In his beak is a sash on which are the words E PLURIBUS UNUM (from many-one)- the motto of our fledgling republic which surely had great meaning to the citizens in 1870 when this clock was produced. There a few paint flakes on the lower glass (see photograph). The brass movement has been professionally cleaned and adjusted for good operation. The zinc dial retains its original paint with blue corner decorations (see photograph). This beauty will look just great on a wall shelf, desk or mantle, and will witness to everyone who sees it of the patriotism of the owner. Height: 16 in. (40.64 cm) Depth: 4 in.
