This early Dutch Stoel clock (English translation-"Stool") was so named because the bracket on which it stands with little knobby feet, looks like a small stool. Made in the mid-18th Century (around 1775), this fine example has been professionally cleaned and adjusted for proper operation. The 30-hour movement runs well and strikes the hours on a pleasant cup bell. The original alarm mechanism is no longer present. The painted dial is original and after more than 225 years retains a surprising amount of its original color (see photograph). The weight is original as well as the wooden frame and case. In one of our photos, notice how strongly the pendulum swings. There is an old Dutch saying-"The wider the swing, the healthier the clock". This is surely a robust mechanism!! Often found at a substantially higher price, this outstanding Dutch clock will be an important addition to the collection of its next owner. Height: 28 in. (71.12 cm) Depth: 11 in. (27.94 cm) Width: 12 in. (30.48 cm) Weight: 15
