By 1854, more than 8,000 shipping containers of American clock movements were entering the Port of Liverpool (England) per year. The clockmaking firm of Nelson Holloway in London purchased movements from the EN Welch clock firm in Bristol, Connecticut and had them cased in England. This lovely clock is an especially beautiful example of this type which is often referred to as an "Anglo". The case with its gilded barley twist framing features a professionally restored reverse painting done by Lee Davis in York, Pa. The painting includes the words, "THE GREAT CLOCK TOWER-FRANCE" (see photograph). Except for some chipping along the lower edge of the base, the case looks as good as it did when the Holloway company had the case made for it around 1880. The movement has been cleaned and adjusted for proper operation with a strike on the hours. An attractive matching gilded shelf is included with this fine clock. The shelf is not as old as the clock but matches it perfectly and is included without added cost to the buyer. This is surely a "winner" and quite rare. (Note the label in our photograph). Height: 19 in. (48.26 cm) Depth: 4 in. (10.16 cm) Width: 10 in. (25.40 cm) Weight: 5
