We can only imagine the magnificent Baronial mansion in which this huge English bracket clock must have first been displayed. It would have had to be a castle or one of those British estates with a mantle capable of supporting the 75 pound weight of this amazing clock. The mechanism includes a nested eight-bell chime system on which the Whittington melody sounds every fifteen minutes. There are also four heavy steel coiled gongs on which the Westminster chime melody plays on the quarter hours. The owner may select either of these strikes by turning the indicator on the dial to point to the preferred melody. Look at those wonderful Gold embellishments on the dial They have been hand-cleaned and will never tarnish. The beautiful Mahogany case has only a few veneer age-lines-and the veneer is all solid and complete (not at all distracting)and features brass inlay with open work brass side-windows backed by the original red cloth curtains (see photograph),which allow the chimes to fill the room every fifteen minutes--unless the owner silences the strike altogether by turning the indicator on the dial from CHIME to SILENT. There is also a subsidiary dial to fine-tune the speed of the clock's operation-FAST(er) or SLOW)er). (see photograph). The large bun feet also have brass inlay. The movement is engraved on the back plate and runs and strikes perfectly. Height: 31 in. (78.74 cm) Depth: 11 in. (27.94 cm) Width: 18 in. (45.72 cm) Weight: 75
