As hard as it has become to find pillar and scroll wood works clocks, we had a thrilling bit of luck this week. We uncovered THREE owned by the same person. Actually, he was only offering one of them to us, but after some negotiating, we were able to buy all three. This fine clock was made around 1828 in Bristol, Connecticut by the venerable Chauncey Ives--a name well known and respected then and now--in the clockmaking community. The 30-hour wood works has been professionally adjusted and cleaned for perfect operation. The same applies to the bell which strikes each hour. The lower door glass has a professionally redone reverse painting which would have impressed even Chauncey himself back in 1828! The dial is impressive and in good condition as well. The label inside the case has some staining (don't they all) and contains all of the information regarding the maker and other details that the old clock makers liked to include inside their clocks for the benefit of the purchaser/owners down the line. There are some minor veneer repairs and the brass finials are not original to this clock--but quite respectable anyway. Pillar and scroll clocks when found at all have been selling for substantially more each year. The feet are professionally done replacements. We offer this good price due to our fortunate purchase of three from the same collector. Height: 31 in. (78.74 cm) Depth: 5 in. (12.70 cm) Width: 17 in. (43.18 cm) Weight: 5
